  • Vice President Development

    Mersky, Jaffe & Associates has been retained by Jewish Home Lifecare to conduct a search for its next Vice President Development.

    Jewish Home Lifecare provides healthcare services and assistance to more than 14,000 clients annually. Each line of service—including short stay rehabilitation, skilled nursing, homecare, adult day programs, senior residences, and geriatric care management—recognizes each person as a unique individual and provides care that supports independence and respects human dignity.

    With more than 160 years as a nonprofit elder care system, Jewish Home Lifecare today provides services on three campuses—Manhattan, the Bronx and Sarah Neuman Center in Westchester—as well as through its community programs across the New York metropolitan area.

    Reporting to the President and CEO, Dr. Audrey Weiner, the vice president development is responsible for all aspects of fund-raising for Jewish Home Lifecare including annual, Capital Campaign and planned giving.  Fund sources include individuals, foundations, corporations and government.  The vice president works closely with the Chair of the Development Committee, Committee members and Trustees for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.  The vice president also has bottom-line responsibility for the budget for the development department and supervision of all relevant staff.

    Additionally, the vice president development will:

    • develop a strategic and tactical fundraising plan for all campaigns that includes a timetable, gift table as well as stewardship and communications programs.
    • coordinate and monitor all development activities of the organization and regularly report results to the President and CEO, the Development Committee, Fund for Aged Board and others, as required.
    • supervise the development of proposals for government, foundations and corporations, and individuals.
    • conceptualize program and donor opportunities to reflect JHL needs, expertise and donor interest.
    • organize, motivate and lead Board members to recognize and carry out their fundraising responsibilities.
    • identify and recruit additional members to the Development Committee in order to expand opportunities for major gift cultivation and solicitation.
    • train the Board, Development Committee members and volunteers to serve as solicitors and cultivators of other prospects.
    • supervise the research, cultivation and development of appropriate solicitation strategies for identified and new gift prospects including major gifts.
    • engage in and direct personal solicitation of such prospects.
    • create a variety of appropriate gift vehicles to meet the needs of different donors.
    • administer stewardship activities by supervising the maintenance of the database of contributors and gifts, track current and potential donors as well as acknowledge, record and report all gifts with appreciation to donors.
    • be capable of conceptualizing, planning, implementing and supervising varied special events.
    • create a communication plan and schedule for donors and prospects including reports, brochures and other communication tools that inform prospects and donors of special giving opportunities and JHL successes.
    • prepare and monitor budgets for all development activities subject to the approval of the board, Fund for Aged and President and CEO.
    • supervise, develop, nurture all staff within the department to assure maximum productivity, effectiveness and growth.

    The successful candidate will:

    • be a strong manager who is a self-starter, who listens and is able to build a motivated team of volunteers and professionals
    • have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in all facets of development;
    • possess a proven track record in major gift solicitation and experience working with high level volunteers and philanthropists;
    • be a hands-on computer-literate leader with superior verbal and written communication skills
    • have knowledge of health care and aging issues;
    • possess exceptional oral presentation and strong writing skills
    • be self-motivated, proactive, focused, resilient, goal oriented and a results-driven professional prepared to work in a collaborative manner as a team player;
    • be a person of impeccable integrity, the highest ethical standards, creative and energetic as well as committed to realizing the potential of the bold, innovative, dynamic vision of Jewish Home Lifecare.
